Photography club holds annual awards

The Southern Suburbs Camera Club recently held its AGM, showcasing the results of the highly anticipated 2023 Annual Awards.

This amateur photography social club, based in Glenvista, boasts members from across Gauteng, a testament to its widespread appeal and national recognition.

One of the club’s distinguishing features is its diverse membership base, drawing photographers from various locales within Gauteng, not limited to Glenvista.

At the heart of the Annual Awards are the six competition categories, providing members with a platform to showcase their talents. Divided into juniors and seniors based on their star ratings in 2023, the competition was fierce yet inspiring, with each submission reflecting the creativity and dedication of its author.

Chairing the judging panel was Arnold Bester, chairperson of F-Stop Camera Club, who commended the club members for their outstanding contributions and the overall high standard of submissions.

The list of winners and their exceptional images is as follows:

Junior category:

• Antonio Ferreira: Winner – Wildlife category with Hopper ready to fly.

• Jacques Lourens: Winner – Portrait category with Spring is in the air.

• Judy Joubert: Winner of the 2023 Progress Trophy and multiple categories, Best Overall Junior image with Water Stream, Scapes category with Water Stream, Open Color category with Flamingos in the mist and winner of the Open Mono category with Natasha.

Senior categories:

• Simon Fletcher: Winner – Wildlife category with Elephant Leftovers

• Martin Barber: Winner – Portraits category with Wisdom and Open Mono category with Wet winter morning.

• Alexius van der Westhuizen: Winner – Photojournalism & Sport category with Lerena vs Gashi.

• Kobus Yssel: Winner – Scapes category with Hay Bales.

• Anneke Preto: Winner of the Best 2023 Senior Overall image with Amsterdam and Winner – Open Color category with Amsterdam.

The Southern Suburbs Camera Club extends an invitation to photography enthusiasts to attend their monthly meetings, held on the second Thursday of each month at 18:45 at Glenvista Camera Club.
